Dates for the Sabbats
yule2: October 31
Yule/Winter Solstice: on or around December 21
Imbolc/Candlemas: February 2
Ostara/Spring Equinox: on or around March 21
Beltaine/May Day: April 30
Litha/Summer Solstice: on or around June 21
Lughnassadh/Lammas: August 1
Mabon/Autumn Equinox: on or around September 21
Sabbats are usually based more on a time of year than on a particular date.
The are based on the position of the sun, which varies from location to
location. A good rule of thumb is that an Eclectic can actually perform the
ritual during a 3 day window, such as Lughnassadh, (Lammas), which is
coming up in August.
Most reference materials state that this Sabbat is
August 1, but I have read a couple that say August 2. This is most
interesting, as August was not one of the original months.
Also, Bealtinne is commonly said to fall on May 1. The Scottish Wita
celebrate it on May 15. See what I mean by no set date, but rather a
The ancients had 28 days in their months, (or moon cycles), so
how can Samhain be celebrated on October 31 if they recognized no such day?
I say, if you get it in the right season, perform your ritual when the
spirit moves you. The God/dess isn't looking for accuracy, but intimacy.
